The future of theatre begins with new writing, and Art House Productions has officially opened applications for its INKubator New Play Programme 2026-2027. Designed as an eight-month playwriting residency, the programme offers emerging and established playwrights the opportunity to develop an original full-length play in a collaborative, professional environment.
Running from October 2026 to May 2027, the residency brings together a select cohort of writers who meet in person every month with Programme Director Alex Tobey. Throughout the programme, participants share new pages, receive constructive feedback, and refine their ideas into a complete first draft. The journey culminates in the INKubator New Play Festival, where each playwright collaborates with a professional director and actors for a public staged reading of their work.
This year's programme is looking for playwrights with a meaningful connection to New Jersey. Applicants do not need to be current residents - having lived, studied, worked, or even maintained a personal connection to the state is sufficient. The organisers encourage writers to create stories inspired by New Jersey in all its complexity, celebrating both its strengths and imperfections.
For Indian theatre practitioners, the INKubator model serves as an inspiring example of how sustained mentorship and structured script development can strengthen a theatre ecosystem. Applications for the INKubator New Play Programme 2026-2027 are open until Monday, August 17, 2026, at 11:59 PM ET, with applicants expected to receive notifications by the end of September.
