The winners of the 21st Mahindra Excellence in Theatre Awards (META) were announced at a glittering event at New Delhi's Kamani Auditorium.
MITHYASUR, directed by Ajit Singh Pallawat, was picked as the Best Production; it also won (shared) for Best Original Script (Pranay Pandey) and Best Supporting Actor (Sahil Ahuja).
JE JANLAGULOR AKASH CHILO (Bengali) swept major awards followed by DHOMI KITHA KITHA DHOMI (Malayalam) swept major awards.
The 10 productions selected to be staged at the META Festival were of such extraordinary quality that the jury comprising theatre stalwarts Amal Allana, Anuradha Kapur, Satish Alekar, Ila Arun and Rajit Kapur must have had a tough time selecting the winners in 13 categories.
The jury noted that this year a lot of plays were focused on women; three of the nominees had female directors -- Purva Naresh's CHANDNI RAATEIN, Parna Pethe's SOMETHING LIKE TRUTH and Meghna Roy Choudhury's KADAMBARI.
